THE POWER OF THANKSGIVING.
THE POWER OF THANKSGIVING (part 1)
In this edition, we will be looking at The Power Of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is a positive emotion or attitude in acknowledgement of a benefit that one has received or will receive. It is an act of giving thanks.
Thanksgiving has the power to cause lines to fall for you in pleasant places.
Be careful for nothing ……………. (Philippians 4 vs 6a)
In Today’s world of uncertainties, difficulties, growing economic crises, insecurity, untold hardship, birth of incurable diseases e.t.c. Can one afford to have absolute peace? Is there any condition upon which one will have inner tranquility, firm conviction that Jesus is near and that God’s love will be active in our life for good? Can we have peace that stands as guard at the door of our hearts and minds preventing the cares of this life and heartaches of disappointment from overthrowing our lives and hope in Christ Jesus? Can we live a thorough worry free life, being conscious of the fact that even if we don’t know tomorrow, we know him who holds tomorrow and because he lives we also will live and not just exist in our tomorrow?
When God says be careful for nothing it means: just do the known and forget about the unknown, do the planting and don’t bother your little head about how the increase will come. Find something and make it the work of your hands and leave its prosperity to him. Sow the seed and leave the increase to him.
God did not stop at that first line, he went to the second line and stated the only standing, tested and proven condition upon which the peace that passes all understanding, the peace that withstands every negativity, the peace that made the Shunamite woman say “it is well” even when the reality of the child’s corpse lying in her house was evident, the peace that made Elisha to tell Gehazi confidently that he that is with them is greater than he that is against them when it was obvious that their enemy’s army is about surrounding them, I mean the condition upon which the peace that will cause one to exercise calmness not minding the kind of army trying to invade one’s life is guaranteed.
………………With prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God and the peace of God that passeth all understanding shall keep your heart and mind (Philippians 4 vs 6b-7)
The only prayer or supplication that can guarantee this peace that will cause one to be careful for nothing is the one accompanied with thanksgiving. By giving thanks to God:
You are causing your sub-conscious mind to come to terms with the fact that God is the one who picked you up from where you were, brought you to where you are and is taking you to your destiny. You are enthroning God in every affair of your life, giving him glory and honour due to him. You are also recognizing the fact that it is God that lends you the life you are living
The moment you stop being thankful to God, recognizing him as the source behind your existence and every success you have achieved in life, be assured that your imagination is becoming vain, your heart is darkening and will stop at nothing until it has made you a fool.
………………………..Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools (Romans 1 vs 21-22).
Beloved, after minutes, hours, days, months and years of prayers, it is time for thanksgiving. The man we are following his footsteps when He was faced with the challenge of raising a friend who was dead, buried and have stayed in the grave for 4 days in the book of John gospel chapter 11 verses 41-42, He started by lifting up His eyes to the father and giving thanks. The man who is already dead came back to life. When He had compassion on His audience in St Marks gospel chapter 8 verses 1-8, He lifted the little bread and fishes and gave thanks. Then came the miracle of multiplication and abundance, four thousand were fed and there was a leftover of seven baskets. I don’t know that situation of your life that keeps bringing tears down your cheeks, you have tried all you could to make things work the way they should all to no avail. You have fasted and prayed but it is still not helping the situation. Wait a moment beloved; there is good news for you! Your case is not an exemption, just before you throw in the towel, there is something you are yet to try and that is the power of thanksgiving. Lift your eyes towards your maker and start giving Him thanks and I tell you soonest good news will hit you! Believe me laughter will come back to that face.
God bless you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
